MODULAR SEATING RANGE - MACHU

Brief - Create a modular seating system where comfort is key. See Studio Segers image for inspiration.

First thoughts were, the Studio Segers' seating didn't look comfortable, which isn't good as clients usually buy contract furniture through images, rather than seeing samples. Secondly most contract modular seating either had very short feet, or metal feet. We had other ideas...

JEWELLERY

JEWELLERY

We have been making jewellery to suit a range of different local markets and shops. Now, we have been focusing on modern markets, and keeping the designs simple.

The images below show jewellery designed and made by us, except for the delicate silver flowers we requested a silversmith to make.

DOTTY

CABLE SLEEVE/TIDY - DOTTY

Brief - to make a cable tidy that features a stripey rugby sock, industrial bolts and a concrete base.

As you can imagine, this was a difficult task to be given. Once the initial materials and moulds had been costed for, this brief wasn't achievable for resale. We then moved on to adjustable snap-bands, then Velcro, combined with removable hooks and fun buttons.

FRANK

RUSTIC TABLES AND SEATING - FRANK

Whilst working at New Design Group, our Design Director approached the company with a few initial design concepts for a simple table and bench system that could be modified and manufactured easily.

Competitors were offering similar bought-in systems, but NDG's design team could create bespoke combinations with sustainable materials.

LIGHTING

LIGHTING - FLEUR (3D PRINTED)

Brief - Design a product using 3D printing. This can be anything.

3D printing isn't usually used for a finished product. Our best source of inspiration is nature, so used nature to form lighting ideas which could only be manufactured via 3D printing. This design requires a printer with dissolvable structure to create hollow tubes for the wiring.

TRIO STOOL

BREAKOUT SEATING - TRIO STOOL

Our Design Director approached New Design whilst working there a concept breakout stool range which would update their existing stools and allow for linked sales with another product range they already sold.

This also updated an existing product range which no longer stood out from competitors.

TRIO TABLE

BREAKOUT TABLES - TRIO TABLE

Brief - Produce a wooden PLY table with the top section in three pieces. This is to suit café's, hotels and breakout areas.

A lot of time was spent trying to get the three-section top to align correctly, despite large manufacturing tolerances. In the end, there was a lot of unnecessary machinery and tooling involved, so decided to focus on the leg shape and create a simple, fun product range.
